The average wingspan for a red tailed hawk ranges from 110 to 145 cm Male wings are usually smaller than the females wings.

All birds have three parts in their wing . The humorous, which has the tushery feathers and connects to a birds shoulder. The radius and alna have the secondary feathers and where they meet with the humerous is at the elbow.

The Red-tailed Hawk soars rather than continuously flapping its wings. The strokes are deep and slow. During regular flight they average 20 to 40 mph.

Red tailed hawks are North America's most common hawks. They are found all over the continent, in Central America, and in the West Indies. The first of these hawks to be scientifically studied was in Jamaica.
